Gorilla Safaris trying to stop the extinction of Gorillas and Gorilla Habitats.

I have often been really attracted to the beautiful Gorilla, they are amazing creatures which have many similar characteristics to humans. Gorillas are big, tender, retiring apes that have their homes in the beautiful land that is Africa. Gorillas have been made to appear like nasty animals by the film industry in the past but are in actuality quiet, shy, peaceful vegetarians. These highly intelligent animals are in danger of extinction due to the massive deforestation of their home grounds.

Gorillas that some reason have been placed in human cages have displayed a great amount of wisdom learning sign language from scientists and have been seen to create straightforward sentences and get over their intent with individuals. Only Gorillas in captivity that have been instructed have shown any skill with tools this doesn’t mean to say they haven’t used them in their own habitat just that they haven’t been observed.

As I spoke about before Gorillas are mostly quite animals but they commune with each person using many complicated noises and gestures this is mostly to teach the little gorillas the numerous skills needed to survive and to communicate to other gorillas about social relationships, food, warning etc. Gorillas are mostly herbivores, though sometimes they will eat termites and ants. The moisture they get from the vegetation they consume is sufficient to rarely require a drink of water, which isn’t that amazing if you think that a normal male gorilla consumes around 50 pounds of grub each day.

The work to ensure that the gorillas areas they live is not completely destroyed has been carried out by people over the years and now due to the many Gorilla safaris that now bring money into the areas, specifically to see the gorgeous gorilla, the requirement for safety for these stunning creatures is much more central. A lot of these Safari businesses give opportunities to go mountain gorilla tracking in the many parks in the vicinity, but this is on a consent basis to ensure the gorillas aren’t bothered too much. The habitat has allowed these safari businesses to also provide wildlife safaris which ensures that interest and financial support keeps flowing into the regions.

Once upon a time the Gorillas would have had their habitat in the trees but they have evolved into surviving on the forest floor mainly living at the forests boundary and close to clearings within the rainforests. The life span of a wild gorilla is around 35 years, but animals that are put into caged have been seen to live till about 50.

By about ten or twelve years of age gorillas are able to mate, the gestation period of a female gorilla is around 8 to 9.5 months and she will have around 3 babies in their existence. The freshly born baby is on average half the weight of a human child. Watching a Gorilla mother raising her offspring is very much like that of a human mother with great care and affection. Young gorillas once weaned create there own nests near to there mothers and will at some point leave there side at about 3 to 4 years old.
